Team Indonesia Win Gold at Cannes Young PR Lions

Indonesia’s Randy Handoko and Joshua Tjandra, creatives at Leo Burnett Jakarta, are the winners of this year’s Cannes Young PR Lions competition. The team from Colombia, Rony Saavedra and Manuel Barbosa Granados won Silver, and from Germany, Alexander Walter and Katharina Kiriakou claimed Bronze.

At the global final, Randy and Joshua competed against 26 national winners to be crowned the world’s best young PR creatives. Teams had 24 hours to create a global campaign based on a detailed brief from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The brief challenged competitors to create a campaign that would get the attention from youth around the world to help make a video combating racism. The winning campaign idea was a flight anti-racism video – a safety video created by youth around the world that protects travellers against racism.

Singapore’s Heather Seet & Victoria Brown, winners of the ICCO Next-Gen PR World Cup finals

Mutant Communications’ Heather Seet and Victoria Brown have today won Gold at ICCO’s inaugural Next Generation PR Word Cup. The UK’s Elliot Payne and Sophie Webster won Silver, and France’s Maria Da Silva and Vasileios Vrakas claimed Bronze.

Representing PRCA Asia Pacific as Team Singapore, Heather and Victoria competed against 10 national teams, between 13-20th October, to be crowned the world’s best. In the final, pairs representing Finland, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Singapore, UAE, and the UK were set a brief by the International SOS Foundation. Teams had to not only come up with a creative idea but also put together a five-minute video pitch explaining how they would implement the idea on a practical level.

The Next-Gen PR World Cup is the first competition held by ICCO to showcase emerging PR talent from around the world. To reach the final, teams first had to win at a national and regional level, by responding to a brief set by a local charity or NGO.

The winners will now receive the opportunity to present at the 2022 ICCO Global Summit, as well as an opportunity to lead ICCO’s new Next Generation Advisory Group, which will be launched in 2022.

Kayla Perfect, Senior Group Marketing Manager, International SOS Foundation, and Chair of the Jury said: “On behalf of the International SOS Foundation, we are humbled with the efforts put forth in the competition. The calibre of the campaigns, ideas and innovation is commendable. They all address Duty of Care in their unique way and many could be implemented immediately”. Commenting on the winners, Kayla added: “A very thorough campaign utilising all of the Foundation’s channels. Commendable emphasis on measuring the success of the campaign”.

Cohn & Wolfe Sweden wins the Young Lions PR competition in Cannes

Joseph Borenstein and Linnéa Rinäs from Cohn & Wolfe Sweden have received Gold Lions awards as the winners of the Young Lions PR competition at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, sponsored by ICCO.

The Young PR Lions PR competition saw 18 countries send their selected teams of two PRs under the age of 28 to Cannes. On Saturday 20th, the teams were each given a brief from Greenpeace and on the following day had 12 hours to create a creative and effective campaign for the charity.

Francis Ingham, ICCO Chief Executive, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of this year’s winners at the Young PR Lions Competition. The judges were incredibly impressed with the standard of work put forward by the entrants, all of whom should be sincerely proud of their work.

“I would also like to thank each of our sponsors, as well as the Festival, for allowing us to showcase such astounding talent. We look forward to celebrating again next year.”

Greenpeace’s brief required the competitors to prepare a PR campaign around sustainable agriculture, with the aim of raising awareness of the environmental impact of meat and motivating consumers to change their consumption habits.

The jury included: David Fine, Global Creative Strategist, Edelman; Joe Benarroch, Head of International Ads, Corporate Communications, Facebook; and Steve Barrett, Editor-in-Chief, PRWeek US.

This marks the second time that the Swedish team have represented their country in the PR competition, having won the local competition twice. They also won the Eurobest Young Creatives integrated competition this year.
